VIDEO | American influencer jokingly asks for asylum in Andorra again
The creator, who already went viral last year simulating that she was asking for refuge in the Principality, recovers the joke
American content creator Holly Hudson, known on social media as @holhuds, has once again put Andorra at the center of one of her viral videos. The influencer has revived, in a humorous tone, the story she started last year when she pretended to apply for asylum in the Principality following Donald Trump's election victory.
In her latest video, Hudson once again stages a fictional conversation with Andorran authorities to ask about the status of her supposed asylum application.
“Hello, tiny democracy department of Andorra. Yes, it’s me again. We spoke last year. I applied for asylum. I just wanted to check on the status of my application,” she begins.
Hudson says she does not want to “rush” Andorran authorities, but jokingly adds that “the United States has deteriorated slightly since then.”
“You’ve gone from asylum applicant to habitual caller”
The influencer continues the fictional conversation, joking about the supposed follow-up on her case: “You’ve gone from asylum applicant to habitual caller. Great.”
Hudson acknowledges that Andorra is “a very small country”, but argues that its size has become one of its main attractions.
In a satirical tone, she contrasts the way large democracies operate with a small country such as Andorra. “Large democracies have committees, resources, waiting lists, hearings, and then nothing gets done and nobody has problems,” she says.
By contrast, she portrays Andorra as a country where political responsibility could be much more direct.
“You have 80,000 people. If someone destroyed democracy in Andorra, you could probably just go to their house,” she jokes.
“A country small enough to put everyone in one WhatsApp group”
Hudson continues the joke about the Principality's small population, saying: “This is the level of accountability I’m looking for. A country small enough to put everyone in one WhatsApp group.”
The American creator ends the video by announcing that she is formally reopening her supposed asylum application.
“I understand you’re small, but I’m no longer looking for the American dream. I’m looking for the emergency exit,” she concludes before addressing the fictional Andorran authorities one final time: “Hello?”
The new video brings back the character Holly Hudson first used last year and once again portrays Andorra, through satire, as a potential refuge from political uncertainty in the United States.
