Farmers Have One Week to Report Damage Caused by Hailstorm in Andorra

Andorran farmers have one week to report damage caused by the severe hailstorm that hit several parts of the country on Thursday. The process is particularly important for tobacco plantations, with the aim of assessing the full extent of the losses caused by the storm.

According to RTVA, the Association of Farmers and Livestock Breeders has called on all growers to report the damage so that authorities and insurers can determine the true extent of the losses, which have also affected vegetable and fruit crops.

Damage Concentrated in the South of the Country

The worst-affected farms are located between Aixirivall, Fontaneda and Auvinyà, where the hailstorm has left numerous tobacco plants almost completely destroyed.

In some cases, farmers say that only the stems remain, rendering a large part of the crop unusable and putting this year's harvest at risk.

Damage has also been reported, although to a lesser extent, in other parishes across Andorra.

Further Storms Could Increase Agricultural Losses

Concern remains among farmers, as storms forecast for the coming hours could cause further damage to crops that have already been severely weakened by Thursday's storm.

Farmers therefore hope to complete their assessment of the damage over the coming days and determine the economic impact of the hailstorm on this year's agricultural campaign.
