Police arrested a 60-year-old non-resident man in Andorra la Vella early Monday morning on two alleged offences against public safety related to the possession and carrying of a prohibited weapon.
Officers spotted the man in a severely intoxicated state. As he was having difficulty walking, the patrol accompanied him to the hotel where he was staying.
It was there that officers found a revolver with five rounds in the cylinder inside one of his trouser pockets. He was also carrying a case attached to his belt containing a knife with a 10-centimetre blade.
The man was subsequently arrested over the alleged offences involving prohibited weapons.
Ten arrests during the week
The arrest in Andorra la Vella forms part of the Police's weekly activity report, which records 10 arrests during the week for various alleged offences.
The case stands out due to the discovery of a loaded revolver with five rounds, as well as a knife, while the man was reportedly in a state of severe intoxication.
Concern over the presence of bladed weapons in public spaces has intensified this week following a confrontation in Pas de la Casa involving individuals allegedly linked to tobacco smuggling. Images show several people displaying what appear to be knives and a machete during a dispute, while another person is seen carrying an object resembling a stick.
The incident has raised concern among local residents, particularly because the confrontation took place near the town and along secondary routes reportedly used to transport tobacco on foot. Residents are calling for greater surveillance of these paths amid fears that conflicts linked to smuggling could escalate into more dangerous situations.
