Baroness Thyssen returns to Andorra after recovering and works on her memoirs

Baroness Thyssen, Carmen Cervera, has returned to Andorra after recovering from a recent hospitalisation that required her to be transferred by helicopter to a hospital in Barcelona. Now in better health and surrounded by her twin daughters, Carmen and Sabina, the baroness is spending the summer in the Principality while also working on one of her most personal projects: her memoirs.

After the scare caused by her hospital admission, Cervera had been staying at her home in Sant Feliu de Guíxols. She has now returned to Andorra, where she has her tax residence. The news emerged after journalist Alberto Guzmán said on the television programme D Corazón that the baroness was doing “quite well” and would spend the summer in the Principality with her daughters.

Few details have emerged about Carmen Cervera’s health since her hospitalisation, largely because the baroness herself has chosen to maintain maximum discretion about her condition.

According to the information that has been reported, she was admitted to hospital after suffering severe pneumonia, a particularly delicate condition given that Cervera is 83 years old. Her return to Andorra and her gradual resumption of her activities suggest that her recovery is progressing favourably.

In the Principality, the baroness has found a quieter environment in which to continue her recovery, surrounded by her daughters and her closest circle.

Carmen Cervera turns to writing her memoirs

Beyond her recovery, her stay in Andorra is also focused on a personal project she has been working on for some time: her memoirs.

Cervera is reportedly taking a direct role in writing the book, with the intention of recounting different stages of her life in her own words. The memoirs are expected to cover her childhood and youth, her marriages, motherhood and her close relationship with the art world.

The project could also eventually become a documentary. According to Alberto Guzmán, the memoirs are part of an agreement with a fiction platform that could later bring her story to the screen.

Carmen Cervera’s return to the Principality comes at a time when her son, Borja Thyssen, has also recently been at the centre of controversy in Andorra over an alleged debt with MoraBanc.

The case has led to a request from the Andorran Justice system, as part of the proceedings connected to the claim. The situation has once again placed the Thyssen family in the spotlight in the Principality.

The matter adds to the attention surrounding the family’s presence in Andorra, where Carmen Cervera maintains her tax residence.

An audiovisual project that dates back several years

The possibility of turning Baroness Thyssen’s life into an audiovisual project is not new. In 2023, plans were already announced to bring her story to the screen around the publication of the book La Baronesa. Una vida de novela, written by journalist Nieves Herrero at Cervera’s request.

However, after disagreements, the baroness withdrew from the project and announced that she preferred to tell her own story herself.

Her memoirs are now taking shape in the first person and could offer a more intimate portrait of her life, beyond the public image that has surrounded Baroness Thyssen for decades.

For now, Andorra is the place Cervera has chosen to spend the summer, continue her recovery and work on this personal project, which could eventually make its way to the screen.
