Japan Remains Andorrans’ Favourite Long-Haul Destination This Summer

Japan remains the favourite long-haul destination among Andorra residents this summer. Despite higher airfares, international travel bookings remain at similar levels to 2025, according to Maica Terrones, vice-president of the Association of Travel Agencies, in an interview with RTVA.

Within Europe, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Croatia once again rank among the most sought-after destinations.

Outside the continent, Japan tops the list, followed by Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Tanzania, Zanzibar and the Maldives, confirming the growing preference among Andorran travellers for Asian and exotic destinations.

Early Bookings Increase by Up to 30%

Higher fuel costs have pushed airfares up by between 3% and 6%, although airlines have absorbed part of the additional cost to prevent an even greater increase.

This situation, combined with international uncertainty, has encouraged many customers to book their holidays further in advance.

According to industry data, early bookings have increased by between 20% and 30% compared with previous summers.

This trend has allowed travellers to access better prices and a wider range of flights and accommodation. Travel agencies therefore expect very few last-minute deals to be available this summer.

More Airport Controls Across Europe

During the interview, Terrones also warned about the impact of the implementation of the new Entry/Exit System (EES).

As Andorra is a non-EU country, its citizens are not able to use automated border-control systems at European airports in the same way as EU nationals and must go through immigration controls.

This could lead to longer waiting times, particularly during the peak travel season. Travel agencies therefore recommend avoiding connecting flights with overly tight transfer times in order to reduce the risk of missing onward flights.

Travel Industry Welcomes Potential Paris Connection

Finally, the vice-president of the Association of Travel Agencies welcomed the possibility of Andorra-La Seu Airport introducing a connection with Paris.

She believes the route would bring the Principality closer to one of Europe's major aviation hubs, make travel easier for residents and encourage the arrival of international tourists.

However, Terrones argues that, at least during an initial phase, the route should receive public support to ensure its viability.
