Trump Holds Up Spain as an Example of the Failure of Migration Policies

US President Donald Trump once again criticised what he described as permissive migration policies on Thursday, pointing to Spain as an example of what he considers the consequences of a lack of effective border control.

During a speech, Trump claimed that “last week, in Spain, 60,000 migrants stormed the border, invaded and occupied a city, attacked innocent citizens and caused unrest in the streets”. According to the US president, the images demonstrate the risks posed by uncontrolled irregular migration.

Trump used the episode to warn that the United States must not repeat what he considers mistakes made by other countries.

“This is what the communists want for the United States. This is what they were doing to us. What they did to us under Biden was even worse, and they want to do it again,” he said.

Migration Remains Central to Trump’s Political Message

Calls for strict border controls remain one of the main pillars of Trump’s political agenda. The US president argues that large-scale illegal immigration threatens national security, public order and social cohesion.

In this context, Trump used the situation in Spain to reinforce his message in favour of stronger borders and a more restrictive immigration policy, insisting that the United States must avoid situations similar to those he described during his speech.

 His comments come as immigration continues to be a major issue in US political debate, with Trump repeatedly presenting tighter border controls and tougher measures against irregular migration as key priorities of his administration.
