Two injured in knife attack at luxury residential estate in Hong Kong
A man was arrested after allegedly attacking several people and injuring a security guard and a foreign domestic worker
Two people were injured and taken to hospital after a man allegedly carried out a random knife attack at a luxury residential estate in Hong Kong on Monday, August 10.
The incident took place at Baguio Villa, in Hong Kong's Southern District, at around 9am. According to local media, the suspect, a 22-year-old resident, left his apartment in Block 47 wearing only sweatpants.
Suspect attacked security guard and domestic worker
According to reports, the man, who was barefoot and shirtless, charged at a passerby outside Block 43. The passerby managed to avoid the attack.
The suspect then turned on a security guard, and the two became involved in a struggle. Other security staff rushed over to intervene.
As he fled the confrontation, the man allegedly stabbed a foreign domestic worker in the back as she was passing by.
Security guards and several members of the public managed to restrain the suspect until police officers arrived and arrested him.
Both the domestic worker and the security guard were taken to hospital for treatment.
Police find injured cat at suspect's home
During a subsequent search of the suspect's apartment, police officers found a cat with an injury to its right ear.
The animal was handed over to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) for veterinary treatment.
According to available reports, the suspect is believed to have injured the cat before leaving his apartment and attacking people outside.
Police are continuing their investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the motive for the attack.
