Miguel Bosé, Andorra’s new resident, warns about solar eclipse: “Don’t even think about looking at it”

Miguel Bosé, the Spanish singer who has recently become a resident of Andorra, has used Wednesday’s solar eclipse to send a strong message to his followers on social media. “Don’t even think about looking at the eclipse. Bad vibes, bad consequences,” the artist wrote, drawing attention to his particular view of the astronomical event.
Bosé has recently settled in Escaldes-Engordany, following a period of holidays in Mallorca. The singer has left behind his years living in Mexico, where he spent a significant part of his life, amid concerns he has expressed in the past about insecurity and the distance from his place of origin.
His arrival in Andorra coincides with one of the most anticipated astronomical events of recent years. A partial solar eclipse will be visible from Andorra and much of the Iberian Peninsula this Wednesday, generating considerable interest and prompting the Andorran authorities to remind the public of the necessary safety measures.
The Andorran Government warns about the risks of looking directly at the Sun
The Ministry of Health and the Department of Commerce, Competition and Consumer Affairs have stressed the need to use only approved solar viewing protection. Looking directly at the Sun without adequate protection can cause serious and irreversible eye damage.
The authorities recommend using special-purpose solar viewing glasses carrying the CE marking and complying with the ISO 12312-2 standard. These filters must block 99.9% of visible radiation, 100% of ultraviolet radiation and at least 97% of infrared radiation.
The glasses must be in perfect condition, without scratches or damage, and should include information about the manufacturer, instructions for use, safety warnings and the expiry date or expected service life.
The Government recommends purchasing them from trusted retailers, such as opticians and specialist stores.
Regular sunglasses are not enough
The authorities have stressed that conventional sunglasses do not provide sufficient protection, even if they are very dark. Homemade methods such as X-rays, smoked glass or photographic negatives are also unsuitable.
Likewise, the eclipse should not be viewed through binoculars, telescopes or cameras unless those devices are equipped with specific, approved solar filters.
One of the most important recommendations is to put on approved eclipse glasses before looking towards the Sun and not remove them while directly observing the eclipse.

The Department of Commerce, Competition and Consumer Affairs says it has not received any complaints or alerts concerning the sale of non-approved eclipse glasses in Andorra.
